It was an honour to run capacity building workshops in Niue in Aug and Sept 2024.
The capacity building workshops were in partnership with the NZ Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Academy for Women Entrepreneurs and the Niue Chamber of Commerce and were customised to suit the fashion community (leadership team, designers and models) as well as small business owners and youth entrepreneurs.
Giving back to my community in Niue is truly meaningful to me on so many levels. After 14 years in the fashion industry, I’ve accumulated knowledge, skills, and insights that I am passionate about sharing with others, especially those who share the same cultural heritage. This career journey has brought me through countless experiences, each of which has taught me something valuable, and now having the opportunity to offer that wisdom to my own community is incredibly fulfilling.
It’s about more than just teaching the technical skills involved in fashion design and production. It’s about showing others what is possible, helping them to envision careers in spaces where they may not yet see themselves. There’s something immensely satisfying in witnessing the growth and confidence of those who come through our programs, events, or mentorships, and knowing that, in some way, I’ve helped pave the way for their dreams. This work allows me to stay connected to my roots, to bridge the gap between tradition and modernity, and to celebrate the rich cultural narratives that define us.
I’m grateful for the chance to give back in a way that honours where I’ve come from and hopefully inspires others to achieve their potential in the ever-evolving world of fashion.
